Story
The World's Worst Rapper
Jay had been rapping for six years.
Nobody knew.
Not because he was underground. Not because he was mysterious. Not because he was waiting for the perfect moment to drop his masterpiece.
Nobody knew because Jay was fucking terrible.
His lyrics were awkward. His flow was worse. His beats sounded like they had been made on a microwave. Even his friends had stopped pretending.
“You should probably keep your day job,” his best mate, Damo, told him one night.
Jay stared at him.
“I don't have a day job.”
“Exactly.”
Jay lived in a tiny apartment above a takeaway shop, worked random shifts whenever someone would hire him, and spent every spare dollar on recording equipment.
But he believed he was destined to become famous.
One Friday night, after getting rejected by another local studio, Jay went home drunk, opened his phone camera and recorded the worst freestyle of his life.
There was no beat.
No preparation.
He just started rapping.
“I got the money, I got the fame,
I got the—uh—different name…”
He stopped.
“Fuck it.”
He uploaded the video to a small social media account and went to sleep.
The next morning, it had three views.
Jay was devastated.
Then he noticed something strange.
One of the accounts that had watched it belonged to Kane V, the biggest rapper on the planet.
Jay laughed.
“Yeah, right.”
He assumed it was a fake account.
It wasn't.
Kane V had actually watched the video.
And he watched it again.
Then again.
By lunchtime, Kane had sent the video to his manager.
“Find this guy.”
---
Three days later, Jay was sitting in an expensive recording studio surrounded by platinum records.
Kane V walked through the door.
Jay nearly fell out of his chair.
“Mate,” Kane said, shaking his hand. “I've been looking for you.”
Jay couldn't speak.
Kane played the freestyle through the studio speakers.
Jay covered his face.
“Can we not play that?”
“No.”
Kane looked serious.
“You don't understand what you've done.”
Jay assumed he was about to get laughed out of the building.
Instead, Kane explained something unbelievable.
Buried underneath Jay's terrible lyrics was a bizarre rhythmic pattern.
Every pause.
Every mistake.
Every accidental rhyme.
It created a sequence that no producer had ever managed to create deliberately.
Kane called it the Broken Flow.
He believed it could completely change rap.
Jay didn't understand any of this.
“So… you think I'm good?”
Kane smiled.
“No.”
Jay's face dropped.
“I think you're something nobody has ever heard before.”
Kane signed Jay to his label that afternoon.
Within a week, Jay's terrible freestyle had millions of views.
People argued about him constantly.
Some called him a genius.
Others called him the worst rapper alive.
Jay didn't care.
He was famous.
His first official song reached number one.
His second went platinum.
His third won an award.
Suddenly celebrities wanted pictures with him. Brands wanted him in advertisements. Fans waited outside his apartment.
Jay had gone from three followers to millions in less than a year.
But there was one problem.
Jay still couldn't rap.
Every time he tried to make another song, the magic disappeared.
His label didn't care.
They wanted the Broken Flow.
So Jay deliberately made mistakes.
He forgot lyrics.
Started verses too early.
Stopped halfway through sentences.
Sometimes he didn't even rhyme.
And somehow, people loved it.
Then the biggest rapper in the world challenged him to a live battle.
Twenty thousand people packed into an arena.
Jay stood on stage shaking.
His opponent smiled.
“You're a joke.”
The beat started.
Jay opened his mouth.
Nothing came out.
The crowd went silent.
For the first time since becoming famous, Jay couldn't accidentally create the Broken Flow.
His opponent started laughing.
Then Jay noticed something.
The crowd wasn't waiting for a perfect rapper.
They were waiting for him.
So Jay stopped trying.
He threw the microphone onto the floor.
“Fuck rapping.”
The crowd erupted.
Jay grabbed the mic again.
“I've been pretending I know what I'm doing for the last two years.”
Silence.
“I don't.”
People started laughing.
Jay smiled.
“And apparently that's why you all fucking love me.”
The beat dropped again.
Jay started rapping exactly the way he had on that first terrible video.
Awkward.
Uncomfortable.
Completely unpredictable.
The crowd exploded.
His opponent couldn't follow him.
Every time Jay went off-beat, the DJ adapted.
Every mistake became part of the performance.
When Jay finished, the arena was screaming.
He hadn't won because he became a better rapper.
He won because nobody else could rap like Jay.
The next morning, Jay woke up to 40 million views.
Kane V called him.
“You finally figured it out.”
“Figured what out?”
Kane laughed.
“You were never supposed to become a good rapper.”
Jay looked at the mountain of awards sitting beside his bed.
“So what was I supposed to become?”
Kane paused.
“Famous.”
Jay smiled.
Then his phone buzzed.
A message from Hollywood.
They wanted Jay to star in a movie about his life.
The title?
THE WORST RAPPER ALIVE.
Jay stared at it.
“Fuck.”
For the first time in his life, he had a problem.
He couldn't act either.
